Help Your Child See a Brighter Future

Your child has so much ahead of them — school, sports, socializing, and more. They should have their best vision for it, and that starts with our pediatric eye exam.

Why Pediatric Eye Care Matters

Children’s eyes change at a much faster rate than at any other point in their lives. This doesn’t just mean their vision prescription needs to be updated more often. Poor eyesight can impact their ability to read, succeed in school, and participate in extracurricular or social activities. Rapidly changing eyes also means kids are susceptible to eye conditions and diseases specific to their age that can have lasting consequences.

We know how daunting staying on top of your children’s eye care can seem: even if we didn’t have kids ourselves, we’ve had enough conversations with concerned and frazzled parents to understand. But making sure your kids have healthy eyes now will set them up for a lifetime of clear vision, and we feel strongly about making that as simple as possible for you to do at Eyecare Specialties.

Pediatric Eye Exams

One of the most important things you can do for your children’s eyes is to simply bring them in for regular eye exams. We use diagnostic technology designed to be comfortable for kids to screen for eye conditions more common in infants and adolescents, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, strabismus, amblyopia, and more. If we find any issues with their eyesight or eyes, we offer specialty treatments and eyewear to treat or manage the effects of their condition.

When to Come in for an Exam

The American Optometric Association recommends that at a minimum, children should have their eyes examined at six months, three years, and once before they begin school. After that, adolescents should have annual eye exams, particularly if they use glasses or contact lenses.

InfantSEE®

For your child’s first eye exam, we’re proud to provide InfantSEE®, a one-time service which provides early detection of potential eye health and vision issues at no cost, regardless of income or ability to pay. This is a perfect opportunity for parents to start protecting their children’s eye health and learn about how to continue to do so in the future!

Sight Safety Scan: Opt-In to Optos!

Your children’s eyes change very quickly, and some of those changes aren’t for the better. Enter our Sight Safety Scan, using Optos retinal imaging: this state-of-the-art tool generates an extremely detailed and wide-angle view of the inside of the eye, with no dilation required, allowing us to detect even the slightest, earliest issues before they develop into something that could impact your child’s vision. Opt-in to Optos at your next pediatric eye exam!

Teach Your Child to Love Eye Care

We use child-friendly techniques during our exams to make them comfortable at the eye doctor. And if they need glasses, they’ll love our collection of awesome children’s frames!

Kids’ Eyeglasses and Sunglasses

Kids’ glasses need to correct their vision, survive their busy days, and be available in styles that your children will want to wear. We offer a large selection of pediatric eyeglasses and kids’ sunglasses that provide clear vision, protect their eyes, and fit their unique style!

Ortho-K for Myopia Control

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) therapy offers a way for children to correct their nearsightedness while they sleep by wearing specialized lenses to bed that stop the progression of myopia. Ortho-K allows children to see clearly during the day and prevents severe nearsightedness in the future, which can be costly to correct.
