Your eyes change a lot over the course of a year! Schedule an eye exam at Eyecare Specialties to make sure your eye health and vision are in peak condition.

Our Experienced Eye Doctors

Our optometrists have years of experience and a multitude of specialties that allow them to make complex diagnoses and treat difficult conditions in all manner of patients. They are proud members of their communities, leaders in their fields, and will always take the time to make sure you understand your eye health and options!

Why Are Eye Exams Important?

Your vision changes throughout your life, meaning that your vision prescription can subtly or dramatically change over the course of just a few months. Getting an updated vision prescription makes sure you’re always seeing clearly without straining your eyes.

There are also many eye diseases that can threaten your vision, and tragically, many won’t show any symptoms until permanent damage or irreversible vision loss has occurred. The good news is that our comprehensive eye exams use industry-leading medical equipment and methods to check for the earliest, most subtle signs of various eye conditions that could threaten your eyes, and our team has spent years creating custom treatment plans for patients of all kinds.

Pediatric eye exams

Pediatric Eye Exams

Eye exams are exceptionally important for children, whose eyes change at a faster pace than adults and are more susceptible to certain eye conditions. Susan Lake, O.D., specializes in providing pediatric eye exams and free infant screenings. Because we use child-specific tools and adore working with kids, parents love our work, and their children love visiting us!

Adult & Senior Eye Care

Just as eyes change a lot when we are younger, they start to change more and develop age-related issues as we get older, too. We account for these changes in older patients and take even greater stock of their eye health history to ensure that we provide the most informed care possible.

What Sets Our Eye Exams Apart?

There are standard eye exams, there are comprehensive eye exams, and then there are our comprehensive eye exams. Our optometrists explore your medical history, family history, medications past and present, lifestyle, and personal preferences. We don’t just heal your eyes and correct your vision; we create solutions that work with your day-to-day life.

It’s not only our staff that are exceptional: each of our offices are equipped with the latest medical eye exam technology so that we can check your eyes and find your vision prescription with an accuracy and precision that you’d have a hard time finding anywhere else in Missouri.

Sight Safety Scan: Opt-In to Optos for Premier Protection

An eye doctor can only be as good as their tools: if they can’t see the smallest issues in your eyes, how can they diagnose them? That’s why we offer the Optos Sight Safety Scan. This retinal imaging delivers a high-definition and ultra-widefield view of the back of your eye, allowing us to detect even the earliest signs of everything from AMD to cataracts — without dilating your eye. The clearer we see your eyes, the clearer you can see everything else!

How Often Should You Get an Eye Exam?

How frequently you should get an eye exam differs as you age:

  • Infants & Children: According to the American Optometric Association, children should at least have their eyes examined at 6 months, 3 years, and once they start school.
  • Adolescents & Adults: We recommend annual exams, especially for anyone who uses eyewear or has risk factors for certain eye diseases. Your eyes and vision can change fast!
  • Older Adults: We may recommend more frequent eye exams to anyone whose aging eyes are changing prescription faster or are newly at risk for various eye conditions.
