Acuvue Oasys Transitions Contacts

Innovative contact lenses that respond to light

If you’re a contact lenses wearer and are interested in ultimate comfort and clear, crisp vision in all environments, it’s time to learn more about Acuvue Oasys Transitions Light Intelligent Technology contacts. What makes these lenses so smart?

We offer Acuvue Transitions lenses at Eyecare Specialties, at our many vision care centers near you in Lee’s Summit, Clinton, Sedalia, and Warrensburg, MO. To make sure you are well-informed about these revolutionary contact lenses, our eye doctor explains the basics-

What are Acuvue Transitions lenses?

Acuvue Oasys Transitions contacts darken automatically when exposed to bright light. In practice, that means you never have to squint when you move from a dim setting into the harsh sunlight of outdoors. In about a minute, these contacts transform from clear to dark, and they fade back to clear in less than two minutes after you leave the bright light. The whole adjustment actually takes less time than your eyes could do it on their own!

In addition, they keep your eyes safe by blocking 100% of harmful UV rays – the highest level of protection in a contact lens.

How does the technology work?

The basic science is that trillions of photochromic molecules are dispersed throughout each Acuvue Transitions contact lens. Photochromic sunglasses have been using these same molecules for years, and Acuvue incorporated them into their advanced contact lens material.

Because these molecules are highly responsive to UV light and specific types of bright light, a chemical reaction occurs when they are exposed to light; this chemical reaction leads to a change in structure that darkens the contacts. As soon as you are out of bright light or UV rays, the contact lenses start returning to a clear state.

When fully activated, these lenses can block up to 70% of visible light, without causing too extreme of a cosmetic change. If the contacts got any darker, people with light colored irises would experience an eye color change.

Sounds amazing, right? You’re not alone in that thought – Time magazine included named Acuvue Oasys Transitions Light Intelligent Technology to its list of the 50 Best Inventions of 2018.

Who can benefit from Acuvue Oasys Transitions contacts?

The seamless transformation to adapt to fluctuating light conditions is helpful for anyone who plays sports, stares constantly at a digital screen or works under uncomfortable office lighting. If you regularly find yourself squinting or having trouble seeing color contrasts as the light around you changes, these contact lenses could be your solution. They enhance chromatic contrasts and give a superior optic experience.

Because these modern lenses also filter out blue light and block harmful UV rays, they offer added bonuses for your eye health and preventing computer vision.
